Steps To Choose A Great Boxing Fitness Plan

So you want a boxing fitness plan? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Many of us live in small cities or too far from the nearest fitness boxing gym. In some cities, you won’t find a class to attend. How can you develop your own boxing fitness plan that suits your needs? So today, I’m going to give you the straight dope on developing a boxing fitness plan for yourself that’ll suit your training needs. This way, you won’t have to depend on a boxing fitness class or gym to get unparalleled fitness results. So what are these 5 steps…

1. Get out a piece of paper.

In this article, I’m going to share secrets for developing a boxing fitness plan that’ll suit your needs. So get a piece of paper and split it into 5 different sections. In each section, you’ll fill in a boxing fitness exercise that you’ll enjoy and will help you reach your fitness goals. You’ll take these 5 exercises and put them together in an explosive 30 minute routine. In box #1, put down stretches. Stretch your legs, shoulders, triceps, back, and shoulders.

2. Warm-up

A warm-up is key to bloodflow and preventing injury. Did you know that warm-ups have also been proven in various studies to increase strength? In box #2, put down warm-up. Choose from the following:

a) Hitting a speed bag for 3-5 minutes
b) 25 jumping jacks
c) Pushups – 3 sets of 20

2. Do you want strength?

If you’re boxing for fitness strength, you’ll want to incorporate boxing weightlifting exercises into your routine. Here’s an example: Do 5 sets of 5 squats, deadlifts, and lunges. These exercises will work your entire-body and most importantly, your core strength. For max results, do a tri-set. So 1 set is 5 squats, 5 deadlifts, and 5 lunges done back-to-back. If you’re not into weightlifting or gaining massive size, do hindu pushups. These are absolutely awesome. In box #3, put down boxing weightlifting or hindu pushups. Note that even if you can bench 400-pounds, you’ll find hindu pushups a challenge.

4. Do you want endurance?

For ultimate endurance, you’ll want to incorporate your choice of the following routines in box #4:

a) Wind sprints – 6 to 20 sets of 50 to 100 yards
b) Max incline sprints on a treadmill – great for leg endurance and strength
c) Jump-rope fitness – 3 explosive sets of 1 minute each

5. Total body fitness

Boxing fitness is just insanely awesome because it works out your whole-body. In box #5 put down your choice of these ultimate whole-body fitness boxing exercises:

a) Burpees – 3 sets of 20
b) Shadow boxing *highly recommended* – 3 sets for 3 minutes each
c) Heavy bag training (if you have one) – 3 sets for 3 minutes each

With shadow boxing and heavy bag training, move your legs a lot. Bouce around on your feet and “dance” – like Muhammad Ali. Use jabs, uppercuts and a lot of hooks. Get explosive – throw jabs for 10 seconds. Stop. Bounce around on your feet for 20 seconds. Throw some hooks. Bounce around, uppercut, bounce around, duck. This way, you’ll incorporate the all-mighty interval training into your workout.

Between each box of exercises, take a 1 minute break. Drink water and just relax. Do exactly what boxers do after a round – sit and rest. Boxing fitness with this plan will take your fitness levels to the stratosphere. I noticed significant results in my own training after doing this for 2 weeks when I first started.

Total time: 25 – 35 minutes. Get as explosive as you can with these boxing fitness workouts to get results in lightening fast time. An awesome boxer to watch for explosivity is the crazy fit boxer Manny Pacquiao.

The Boxing Legend

Every thing could happen with just a blink of an eye. We don’t know what holds our future. It is either we are unlucky or fortunate enough to say that our life has been so good or bad.

Manny Pacquiao is a well-known boxer who brought his name all over the world, giving honor and pride to his fellow Filipinos. Emmanuel Pacquiao or Manny as we all know came from a poor family. He needed to stop from school due to poverty. Manny, who resides from General Santos decided to leave his place and try his luck in Manila. He experienced living in streets for a while. At the age of 14, he was already engaged in amateur boxing where his career started. As time goes by, he received countless awards in his boxing career because of his dedication and determination to win in every battle.

Due to his willingness to finish his education, Manny took a high school equivalency exam where he passed the test so he can be qualified to enter college. Manny entered politics because of his loyalty to serve his fellowmen.

Manny married Jinky and they have four children. Manny provided his mother, mommy Dionisia a mansion, and recently, he gave her an expensive bag. Who would have thought that a boy who came from a poor family would bring victory and honor to his country? Manny Pacquiao is indeed a boxing legend.. a hero.

Autographed Boxing Memorabilia, Signed Photos And Boxing Gloves For Sale

I was recently invited along to an event in Aberdeen Exhibition Centre to a Gentlemen”s Dinner. The main guest being Mike Tyson former World Heavyweight champion, along with Mike was another former heavy weight champion Tim Witherspoon and an another World Title holder Lee McAllister who hails from Aberdeen. During the course of the evening I was fortunate enough to meet Mike and Tim and got a photograph of myself with Mike Tyson which is in the process of
getting framed as I write this article.
Throughout the evening there were opportunities to purchase boxing memorabilia, boxing autographs and signed boxing gloves via raffles, auction and a game called heads and tails. Amongst the items in the auction there were Muhammad Ali signed shorts, Mike Tyson signed gloves and also a great deal of signed boxing merchandise available at reasonable prices.
This was probably one of the biggest dinners I have attended with over 500 people turning out to see Mike and his fellow World Champions. As you can imagine he was in great demand to autograph memorabilia and he did do several signed photos for charity and for those involved in the organising of the evening. However his time was in great demand and not everyone got signed boxing memorabilia.
I was fortunate in so much as my friends did a private signing session with the champ earlier in the year where I obtained a signed photo, signed boxing shorts and a few unusual items of boxing memorabilia and a personalised autograph.
Getting back to the items that were for sale in the auction there was some great Muhammad Ali memorabilia signed in person by the legend including signed pictures, autographed boxing gloves and even a signed boxing robe. All of the items in the auction were fantastic and well presented pieces of autographed boxing memorabilia. But my favourite item was of the greatest pound for pound fighter around at the moment Manny Pacquiao signed shorts which was in my opinion the best framed autograph that was up for auction.
The highlight of the evening was a question and answer session with Mike where he covered his career from start to finish including all of the ups and downs and even a few of the controversial moments in his life, all in all it was a very entertaining evening spent in the company of one of the all time Heavyweight greats.

Different Styles In Boxing

No person is the same. And the adage can be said in the sport of boxing. All boxers understand that the rule of the game is simple – punch your opponent until you knock him out, gives up, or the final bell sounded. But then, the way a boxer fights is what makes him different among the rest.

There are different types of boxers, depending on their strengths, their skill levels, and other correlated attributes. A boxer plays the game the way he does because of the fusion of all these features.

Different Boxing Styles

Brawler / Slugger

Brawlers are those who punch and punch with utter disregard for technique, relying heavily on their punching power to win. Most of them are slow and has poor footwork skills. They also tend to get hit a lot and most of the time, they catch a lot of shots on the way in.

While this can be a bad idea for a sound boxer, brawlers who can take tons of punches and deliver tons of damage in return sometimes win bouts. One powerful punch is all they need to win a fight.

George Foreman was a pure brawler and his durability along with his relentless style makes him one of the most feared brawlers when he was still active.

Classic boxer / Distance Fighter

The classic boxer, also known as the distance fighter, optimizes the distance between him and his opponent. A distance fighter prefers to pepper their opponents with long distance punches, most notably the jab, in an effort to keep them at bay and tire them throughout the fight. Another trait of the classic / distance fighter is that they also have better footwork than most of their opponents.

The jab and other long range punches do not carry huge amounts of power, which explains why most distance fighters win by points. However, a distance fighter knockout their opponents if they are able to tire them down the stretch.

Most notable proponent of this style is Muhammad Ali, whose quick feet and sharp jabs helped him become one of the legends of the sport. It is also important to note that Ali is no power puncher. Boxer-Punchers

Boxer-Puncher

Perhaps the type of boxer that requires a lot of skills in their armory, the boxer-puncher tend to wears their opponents down with powerful combinations and go for the knockout using a series of punches or even with just one shot. With deft footwork and blazing hand speed, they can slide in and do some damage and slip out before the other boxer can retaliate. Most traits of a boxer-puncher include speed, good chin, and extreme mobility.

Manny Pacquiao is a fine example of a boxer-puncher. He is naturally fast and agile and he also packs power in both hands.

Swarmer / Pressure Fighter

As the name suggests, pressure fighters prefer to stay up close and in front of their opponents and throw a lot of powerful combinations to frustrate them, take them off their game, and wear them down for the big finish. While their style may be the same as the brawler / slugger, a pressure fighter is more defensively sound and a lot skillful than their brawling counterparts.

Pressure fighters can bob and weave, slip to the sides, and prefer to duck punches than block them. They also have to have a strong chin because they also tend to get hit a lot, although not as much as a brawler.

One remarkable pressure fighter is Mike Tyson. He always closes the distance between him and the other man and unleash flurries of power punches to keep the bout short and sweet.

Counterpuncher

Perhaps the most defensive-minded of all types of boxers, counterpunchers have tons of defensive skills at their disposal. A counterpuncher is almost always not the aggressor, but their offense is always initiated with good defense.

A counterpuncher throws a shot after slipping or deflecting the other boxer’s punches. To be an effective counterpuncher means you need to have some decent amount of power as well as above-average hand speed.

Perhaps the most known counterpunchers today include Floyd Mayweather, Jr., and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Matching up the styles

Each type of boxer can dominate and be dominated. A brawler can easily beat a pressure fighter but struggles against a distance fighter. A distance fighter on the other hand, tends to have a hard time against pressure fighters.

But there are some instances where a boxer changes his style while in the fight to gain the upper hand. Bernard Hopkins can switch from a distance boxer to a pressure fighter if the situation calls for it. Manny Pacquiao, a boxer-puncher, can easily revert to his brawling self if he feels his opponent will go down with sheer punching power.

Each style has its potential to make any bout exciting and fulfilling, despite its flaws and shortcomings. As they say in boxing, styles make fights.
